Mango Chutney Samosa Dipping Sauce: A Cooling, Sweet-Spicy Finish
A good samosa doesn't need much doing to it, it needs the right thing next to it. This dip pairs Karimix Mango Chutney with cool yoghurt, fresh mint, and a pinch of chaat masala, giving you a sweet, tangy, cooling counterpoint to a hot, crisp samosa straight from the fryer. This recipe leans on Karimix Mango Chutney as the base, and the result is a simple, no cook dip that works just as well alongside onion bhajis or any other fried snack.
Here's how we put it together, along with the products we used from our range.
Why This Combination Works
Fried snacks need a dip with contrast, something cool, something tangy, something to cut through the richness of the pastry. Karimix Mango Chutney brings the sweetness and fruit, yoghurt brings the cooling creaminess, and a pinch of chaat masala adds a savoury, slightly sour edge that ties the whole thing together. Fresh mint on top keeps it feeling light rather than heavy, so it works as a genuine palate cleanser between bites rather than just another sauce.
What You'll Need
Serves 4 (as a sharing dip) | Prep: 5 mins | No cook
- 12 Vegetable Samosas, fried or oven-baked until hot and crisp Brayne & Price #20170 — Miscellaneous range
- 4 tbsp Karimix Mango Chutney Brayne & Price #90159 — Mayonnaise & Sauce range
- 150g natural yoghurt
- A small handful fresh mint, finely chopped
- ½ tsp chaat masala, plus extra to serve
A note on the yoghurt and mint: these aren't currently stocked lines at Brayne & Price, so they're ones to source from your usual fresh or dairy supplier. The Karimix Mango Chutney is what makes this a B&P led dip, and it pairs naturally with the Vegetable Samosas already in the range.
Method
1. Cook the samosas. Fry or oven bake the Vegetable Samosas until hot through and crisp on the outside.
2. Build the dip. In a small bowl, swirl the Karimix Mango Chutney through the natural yoghurt, leaving some ripples of chutney rather than mixing it in completely smooth.
3. Finish. Scatter the chopped mint over the top and dust generously with chaat masala.
4. Serve. Serve immediately alongside the hot samosas, with extra chaat masala on the table for anyone who wants more.
A Few Notes From the Kitchen
Swirl, don't blend, keeping ribbons of chutney through the yoghurt gives you pockets of sweetness in every dip rather than one flat flavour. This same dip works just as well with onion bhajis, spring rolls, or any other fried starter on the menu. It also holds well chilled for a few hours if made ahead, just add the mint and chaat masala just before serving to keep them fresh.
